Watford Ladies U19s player Emma Bebbington, 17, has been called up for international duty with the Wales U19s team. The talented teenager joined the Welsh squad for a four day trial at Newport's Dragon Park in December for both the U17s and U19s teams and says that she saw it as a great opportunity to gauge her ability against her peers. She thought nothing more about it until she received the thrilling the news that she has been selected for the 18 strong U19s squad.

Bebbington said that the training with the Wales team was very intense and she was nervous at first. However, the other players were really friendly and the established players were all very supportive. Michael Williams, Head Coach for Watford Ladies U19 Development team said, "I’m delighted for Emma that her hard work and development has been rewarded. To represent your country is a fantastic achievement, one which she can be extremely proud of, but also a great opportunity to further her football education. Emma is an exciting talent who possesses great technical ability, and has displayed strong performances throughout the season with the Watford Ladies Under 19’s."

Bebbington is in her third season with Watford Ladies, where she has been developing her skills under their Elite Player Pathway scheme. She generally plays on the left wing but is equally talented with both feet so she is also at ease on the right. This makes her a particularly versatile talent as it gives coaches a wider tactical choice when making substitution decisions. Prior to signing for Watford, Bebbington was with MK Dons in the U12 to U16 age groups. However her love of football started at an early age and in her early years she played alongside the boys in MK Wanderers and Brook End Colts. She made the move to Watford because she was impressed with the coaching set up and was looking for an opportunity to fully-develop her potential.

Emma is half-Welsh as her Mum, Kathy, was born and raised in Bangor and her grandmother still lives in Wales. Both are delighted that Emma will represent their country. Despite the lure of football stardom, Bebbington still has her feet firmly on the ground. She is currently studying double PE, Psychology and Geography A levels in the sixth form. Outside of school, she is a qualified Level 1 FA coach and she volunteers with an under 8s team in Milton Keynes. Travelling to and from training in Watford and Wales will soon become easier as Emma is currently taking driving lessons and hopes to pass her test soon.
