Now that the league season has finished, its Tournament time. With our very own 6-a-side tournament coming up on the 20th June the our under 11 sides were preparing in fine fashion.

Under 11 Harts - St Albans City Youth Tournament Winners

We arrived at St Albans with no goalkeeper and 5 of the team new to tournaments. Looking at our group we thought we'd do well just to hold our own. We didn't start well in our 1st game against Borehamwood, nerves playing a part and we lost 1-0. The 2nd game was against a strong Bedwell side and the girls woke up and were totally awesome, winning 3-1. This gave them belief that they could beat anyone. Next up Garston who again had beaten us 7-1 previously. The girls were off to a flyer going up 2-0 early on and despite conceding a late goal clinched a very impressive win, the girls were ecstatic! A draw in the last game against St Albans, in which we'd lost our shooting boots, was enough to see us qualify for the final.

We faced another Bedwell side in the final. The girls were well up for this and seeing them all together before the match encouraging each other was for me a special moment. Straight from the off the girls were on top giving their all. A great strike from Millie gave them the lead with Emily and Anya working their socks off to keep the Bedwell in their own half. The ever impressive JoJo and Emelia made sure stand in goalie Carys had very little to do. A quick change saw Alice and Charlotte come into the game carrying on with a tremendous work rate. With seconds left Carys made a crucial save and then the final whistle blew. A frenzied celebration took place with Sasha joining her team mates on the field.

Well done girls a great achievement. So very proud!

Under 11 Hornets - Denham Ladies Tournament Winners

After finishing in 3rd place at the St Albans tournament the previous week, the U11 Hornets were determined to go further this time at Denham. Drawn into a group of 5 teams, with one coming from the Isle of White, it was only the hosts team that we had knowledge of. However the girls knew that to be successful, winning was a must. The girls won their group and progressed to the knockout stages by winning all four group games without conceding.

The knockout stages saw us drawn against our very own Watford Ladies U11 Harts. We knew this would be a tough match against the St Albans winners and it was only late in the match when our chances were taken and a 3-0 victory ensued. Another close game in the semi-final saw us progress with a 1-0 scoreline to the final.

Barneagles were our opposition in the Final and as we had not played them at all, we had no idea how they would play. However, our Hornets were determined from the start and after soaking up early pressure from the opposition, Casey broke the deadlock to put us 1-0 ahead. This gave the girls the confidence to settle down and play fantastic passing football and 4 further goals were to follow. Kayra helped herself to the 2nd and 4th goals, with Bliss getting one in between. Grace then wrapped up the scoring for the Golden Girls.

But this was not all about the goalscorers. This was an excellent tournament victory by the 8-girl squad. From Tia in goal, not conceding a single goal throughout the tournament, to hard work from each and every player.

The smiles on the faces from all the players and parents when 'Captain for the Day' Catherine held aloft the trophy, was a perfect reward for the morning's efforts.

Well done girls!
