Watford LFC VS Everton LFC

home game

Watford LFC 0 v 1 Everton LFC

Goalscorer - Fern Whelan 61 mins.

In their final game of the season Watford succumbed to their third successive one nil defeat against high flying Everton at Northwood.

Having lost to Arsenal and Leeds by the same margin, Watford went into the game looking to stifle Everton and catch them on the break. Everton dominated the possession in the first half but couldn't find the killer touch. Lauren Davey in the Watford goal dealing capably with any shots that came her way and Charlie Nicholson effectively marking the prolific Natasha Dowie.

With a nil-nil half time score the home fans hoped that the second half would provide Watford with an opportunity to take the lead. However it was Everton who broke the deadlock just after the hour when Fern Whelan nodded home from a corner. Watford did create a couple of breakaway efforts but opted to pass when a shot looked the better option and the chance was gone.

A good battling performance from the Watford girls against a side who may go on to take the league title.

Watford now go into the summer break with Premier League safety assured and a chance to re-group and solve their goal scoring problems before next season.
